What Is Romance Rules?

Romance Rules is a complete AI-assisted system for creating and publishing romance books using proven formulas, niche research, and structured prompts. At its core, it’s not just about writing—it’s about publishing strategically. Romance success isn’t random. It follows patterns.

Inside, you’ll find tools and guides that help you:

  • Identify high-demand romance niches

  • Choose the right trope combinations

  • Match the correct heat level and tone

  • Generate structured story frameworks using AI

  • Publish faster without guessing what works

The whole process is broken down into a simple 3-step workflow:

  • Step 1: Find Your Niche - You use tools like the Niche & Trope Matrix and Reader Avatar Cards to identify what readers actually want.

  • Step 2: Generate Your Story - Using the 100 done-for-you prompts, you can instantly create a complete story framework—titles, characters, plot, and structure.

  • Step 3: Write & Publish - With guided chapter prompts, AI helps you produce your manuscript while keeping everything consistent.

What I personally liked here is how practical it feels. It’s not theory-heavy—it’s built around actually getting a book done.

Romance Rules Review - Key Features

Romance Rules Secret Formulas Guide

At the heart of the program is an 80+ page guide that distills decades of romance publishing insights into a beginner-friendly roadmap. Inside, you’ll learn:

  • The Romance Sweet Spot Formula—a 3-part framework that ensures your book aligns with reader expectations.

  • Trope stacking strategies that bestselling authors use to layer tension and keep readers hooked.

  • The niche intersection method for finding profitable pockets of demand with manageable competition.

  • Common pitfalls, like mismatched trope combinations, that can sabotage a book.

  • How to use AI as a creative assistant to accelerate research, outlining, and drafting without sacrificing quality.

This guide is clear, practical, and designed to cut through the fluff that overwhelms most beginners.

Romance Prompt Pack: 100 Done-For-You Story Prompts

The prompt pack includes 100 fully detailed, plug-and-play prompts across every major romance sub-niche:

  • Billionaire romance

  • Paranormal and romantasy

  • Dark/mafia romance

  • Historical romance

  • Sports and workplace romance

  • Romantic suspense

  • Holiday romance

Each prompt comes pre-loaded with niche, trope stack, heat level, and character dynamics. Simply paste one into an AI tool like ChatGPT, and you’ll instantly generate a complete story package—titles, blurbs, character profiles, and chapter outlines. It’s like having a professional story architect at your fingertips.

Romance Niche Validator Custom GPT

This custom-built AI tool acts as your publishing strategist. Before you write a single word, you can test your idea by inputting niche, tropes, and heat level. The validator returns:

  • A viability score showing market potential

  • Risk level indicators to avoid oversaturated niches

  • Keyword angles for discoverability

  • Platform recommendations (e.g., Kindle Unlimited vs. wide distribution)

  • Cover direction suggestions

  • Red flag warnings to steer clear of mismatches

Think of it as a pre-publish best-seller test that saves you time, money, and frustration.

Romance Niche Trope Matrix

Not all trope combinations are created equal. The Trope Matrix is a compatibility guide that shows:

  • Which niche + trope + heat level combinations are proven winners

  • Which combinations are risky but workable

  • Which combinations are catastrophic mismatches

This ensures your book delivers exactly what readers are searching for, avoiding the dreaded “this didn’t deliver” reviews.

Romance Reader Avatar Cards

Understanding your audience is critical. The system includes 13 detailed avatar cards, each representing a major romance reader type. Examples include:

  • The Dragon-Rider Collector (romantasy fans)

  • The Morally Gray Devotee (dark romance enthusiasts)

  • The Grovel Enthusiast (second-chance romance lovers)

Each card reveals what that reader wants, the copy that resonates with them, where to find them, and what to avoid. This makes tailoring your marketing, covers, and blurbs far easier.

7-Day Romance Publishing Action Plan

Publishing a book can feel daunting, but this step-by-step plan breaks it down into manageable daily tasks. In just one week, you can go from idea to published book. The plan covers:

  • Market positioning

  • Niche validation

  • Story generation

  • Drafting with AI prompts

  • Preparing for publication

It’s perfect for beginners who need structure and accountability.

Video Overview + Full Transcript

For visual learners, the system includes a video walkthrough showing how to use the guide, Custom GPT, prompt pack, and other tools together. A full transcript is also provided for those who prefer reading.

Romance Rules Publisher’s Glossary

Publishing jargon can be intimidating. This glossary explains key terms like:

  • KU (Kindle Unlimited)

  • HEA (Happily Ever After)

  • BSR (Best Seller Rank)

  • D2D (Draft2Digital)

It’s a handy reference that ensures you’re never lost in industry lingo.

Automation and AI Integration

Perhaps the most powerful feature is the seamless integration with AI tools. From generating story packages to validating niches, AI does 99% of the heavy lifting. This makes the system accessible even if you’ve never written or published a book before.

Fast Action Bonus: Romance Reader Avatar Cards

As an added bonus, you’ll receive the Avatar Cards mentioned above. These are invaluable for dialing in your marketing and ensuring your books resonate with the right audience.

Why Should You Choose Romance Rules?

My Personal Experience With Romance Rules:

For this experiment, I created a romance project called: “Second Chance in Willow Creek”. I chose a small-town, second-chance romance angle, mainly because it seemed beginner-friendly and something readers consistently enjoy.

Clarity (This Was the Biggest Shift)

Normally, this is where I get stuck. But using the tools inside Romance Rules, especially the Niche Validator and Reader Avatar Cards, I was able to quickly lock in:

  • A clear niche

  • The right trope combination

  • A suitable heat level

  • The type of emotional payoff readers expect

  • Primary Category: Contemporary Small-Town Romance.

  • Sub-Niche: "Returning Home" Romance.

  • Core Trope: Second Chance. The "one that got away" returns to town.

  • Secondary Trope: Forced Proximity. They are forced to work together to save a local landmark.

  • Tertiary Trope: Secret History / Unresolved Yearning. A specific misunderstanding from ten years ago that finally comes to light, adding layers of emotional tension.

  • Level: Sweet to "Low Steam" (Closed Door/Simmering).

  • The Vibe: High on romantic tension, lingering glances, and heavy emotional stakes, but keeping the "action" mostly off-page or focused on a single, pivotal romantic moment. This fits the "Willow Creek" brand perfectly, making it accessible to a wider audience.

  • The Happily Ever After (HEA): A final scene that involves a community event (a festival or town gathering) where the couple is publicly united, signaling that their love isn't just a private win, but a victory for the whole town.

Building the Story Framework

Next, I used one of the prompts from the Romance Prompt Pack. Within minutes, I had:

  • A working title

  • A full story premise

  • Character profiles with defined roles

  • A structured chapter outline

Story Premise: Second Chance in Willow Creek

Ten years ago, Clara Vance traded the rolling hills of Willow Creek for the glass towers of Chicago, leaving behind a broken engagement and a town that felt too small for her dreams. But when her grandmother leaves her the struggling Willow Creek General Store, Clara returns to find the town—and her heart—stuck in the past.

The store is on the brink of foreclosure, and the only person who can help her save it is the one person she swore she’d never speak to again: Garrett Miller.

Garrett never left. He stayed, built a life as the town’s most trusted contractor, and buried his resentment toward Clara under layers of hard work and silence. Now, forced to work side-by-side to restore the historic building before the Founder's Day Festival, they must navigate a decade of "what-ifs" and the secret that drove Clara away—a secret that might either bridge the gap between them or burn the bridge to Willow Creek forever.

Character Profiles

The Protagonist: Clara Vance

  • Archetype: The Driven Professional with a Hidden Heart.

  • Internal Goal: To prove she can succeed on her own terms without being defined by her past.

  • External Conflict: Must save the General Store from a corporate buyout within 30 days.

  • Flaw: Avoidance. She runs when things get emotionally messy.

  • The "Romance Rules" Hook: She represents the reader's desire for a fresh start and the courage to face old ghosts.

The Love Interest: Garrett Miller

  • Archetype: The Grumpy/Blue-Collar Hero.

  • Internal Goal: To protect the town (and his heart) from outsiders who don't understand the value of "roots."

  • External Conflict: His company is the only one capable of the repairs, but he’s already overbooked and doesn't want to help the woman who broke him.

  • Flaw: Stoicism. He uses work as a shield and struggles to express the hurt he’s carried for a decade.

  • The "Romance Rules" Hook: He provides the "Morally Upright" yet deeply passionate anchor that small-town readers adore.

The Antagonist/Obstacle: Julian Thorne

  • Archetype: The Smooth-Talking City Developer.

  • Function: He represents the life Clara left behind. He wants to turn the General Store into a boutique hotel, providing the "ticking clock" that forces Clara and Garrett together.

The Mentor: "Aunt" Mabel

  • Archetype: The Wise & Meddling Elder.

  • Function: The keeper of town lore. She’s the one who "accidentally" loses the keys to the store while Clara and Garrett are inside, forcing them to actually talk.

Usually, I’d struggle just to come up with a decent plot. Here, everything was already mapped out—I just needed to refine it a bit to make it feel more natural.

Chapter Outline: Second Chance in Willow Creek

Phase 1: The Collision

  • Chapter 1: The Prodigal Daughter Returns - Clara drives into Willow Creek. Visual cues of the town’s decline vs. her memories. She arrives at the dusty General Store and realizes the scale of the disaster.

  • Chapter 2: The Awkward Encounter - Clara seeks out the best contractor in town. She walks into the lumber yard and comes face-to-face with Garrett. The air thickens. He’s cold; she’s defensive.

  • Chapter 3: The Ultimatum - Julian Thorne (the developer) arrives with an offer to buy the store. Clara realizes she has only until the Founder's Day Festival (7 days away) to bring the building up to code or lose it. She begs Garrett for help.

Phase 2: The Simmer

  • Chapter 4: Forced Proximity - Work begins. They are stuck in the cramped basement fixing pipes. Initial bickering turns into a moment of shared competence. They remember they used to be a great team.

  • Chapter 5: The "What Happened" Tease - Aunt Mabel drops by with "encouragement" (and gossip). Over lunch, Clara tries to apologize for the past, but Garrett shuts it down. The wound is still too fresh.

  • Chapter 6: Cracks in the Armor - Late-night painting session. The "low-steam" tension peaks when they almost kiss, interrupted by a town emergency or a phone call from Clara’s "city life."

Phase 3: The Complication

  • Chapter 7: The Dusty Attic Discovery - While clearing the attic, they find a "time capsule" from their senior year. The emotional payoff begins as they realize neither of them ever truly moved on. The secret reason Clara left starts to leak out.

  • Chapter 8: The Community Rally - A town meeting where Julian tries to sway the locals. Garrett stands up for Clara and the store, showing he’s back in her corner. Clara realizes she loves the town more than her city career.

  • Chapter 9: The Dark Moment - A major setback (a storm damage or a failed inspection). Julian reveals Clara was considering a job back in Chicago. Garrett feels betrayed again, believing she’s just going to leave him a second time.

Phase 4: The Resolution

  • Chapter 10: The Grand Gesture - Clara officially turns down the Chicago job and signs a long-term lease for the store. She finds Garrett at their "old spot" (the creek or a bridge) and finally tells him the full truth about why she ran ten years ago.

  • Chapter 11: The Founder’s Day Festival - The store reopens. The town celebrates. Garrett shows up, not as the contractor, but as the man who wants to stay. They share a public, meaningful kiss (The HEA moment).

  • Chapter 12: The Epilogue: A New Season - Three months later. The store is thriving. Clara and Garrett are planning a future in Willow Creek. The "prodigal daughter" is finally home for good.

⏩Writing Without Getting Stuck

This is where I expected things to slow down—but it didn’t. Using the chapter prompts, I started generating content section by section.

Chapter 1: The Dust of Decades

The bell above the door of the Willow Creek General Store didn’t chime. It gave a rusty, strangled groan, as if protesting the very idea of a customer after years of silence.

Clara Vance stood on the threshold, her designer leather boots looking absurdly out of place against the warped oak floorboards. She took a breath, and immediately regretted it. The air tasted of stale cedar, floor wax from the Truman administration, and the heavy, settling weight of a thousand forgotten things.

"Well, Grandma," Clara whispered, her voice echoing in the hollow space. "You certainly knew how to leave a dramatic exit."

She walked further in, her fingers trailing over a glass display case that was now more fingerprint than glass. Inside, a few sets of tarnished silver thimbles and a display of sewing notions sat frozen in time. Outside the front window, Willow Creek looked exactly as she had left it ten years ago—small, slow, and dangerously quiet.

To the rest of the world, Clara was the high-flying project manager who could handle a twenty-million-dollar tech rollout in Chicago without breaking a sweat. But here, under the peeling tin ceiling of her grandmother’s legacy, she felt like the seventeen-year-old girl who had packed a suitcase in the middle of the night and promised never to look back.

She reached the main counter, her eyes landing on the heavy brass cash register. Beside it sat a stack of mail, topped by a bright red "Notice of Default" from the county.

"Seven days," she muttered, tapping the paper. "Seven days to turn a ghost town into a business."

A floorboard creaked behind her. Not the random settling of an old building, but the deliberate, heavy footfall of someone who knew exactly where the weak spots in the wood were.

Clara froze. She knew that stride. She’d heard it in her dreams—and her nightmares—for a decade.

"The back hinge on that door is shot," a deep, gravelly voice said from the shadows near the grain scales. "And the roof over the apothecary section is going to give way the next time it drizzles."

Clara didn't turn around immediately. She couldn't. She needed a second to steady her heart, which was currently trying to kick its way out of her ribs. She smoothed her green sweater, put on her best 'Corporate Clara' mask, and finally turned.

Garrett Miller stood there, framed by a shafts of dust motes dancing in the afternoon sun. He looked broader than she remembered. His jaw was shadowed with stubble, and his eyes—the color of the creek after a heavy rain—were narrowed, unreadable, and fixed entirely on her.

He didn't say hello. He didn't ask why she was back. He just wiped a smudge of grease from his hand with a tattered rag and gestured to the decaying ceiling.

"You’re late, Clara," he said. "By about ten years."

The "Second Chance" experiment had officially begun, and within thirty seconds, Clara realized that saving the store might be the easy part. Saving herself from the look in Garrett’s eyes was going to be the real challenge.

What I noticed:

  • The tone stayed consistent

  • The pacing felt natural

  • The story didn’t drift off track

I still edited and adjusted parts (to make it feel more human and less robotic), but I wasn’t starting from zero anymore—which made a huge difference.

The Result

Within a few days, I had:

  • A complete draft

  • A structured, readable story

  • Something I could realistically prepare for publishing

And more importantly…I actually finished the project. That might not sound like a big deal, but if you’ve ever tried writing before, you know how rare that is.

My Honest Take

Is it completely hands-off? No. You still need to:

  • Review and edit your content

  • Add your own touch

  • Stay consistent if you want real results

But compared to trying to figure everything out alone, this felt significantly easier and more structured.

Final Thought on My Experience

If I had to sum it up simply: Romance Rules didn’t magically do everything for me—but it removed the hardest parts that usually stop me from finishing.

And that’s exactly why I think it’s worth trying—especially if you’ve been stuck at the “thinking about it” stage for way too long.
